The Urban Treehouse Playcentres Inc (UT) started as idea that wouldn't go away. Lisa Sierra and Jennifer Jurkowski, are 30- something business partners who launched a new take on children's playcentres. To create the hip, urban café, playspace and retail toy store, the partners combined components often seen in children's museums and preschools,for a relaxed learning environment for parents and kids ages 0-7 in warm and funky cafe. They have created a strong visual presence in the marketplace with some unique ideas and a mom's eye for detail.
Their 3500 sq. ft centre is located in Airdrie, Alberta, a suburb of Calgary – over half of their clientele comes from Calgary and the surrounding towns. After opening in October 2006, in their first 3 months in business, they won Calgary's Child Parent's Choice Awards "Best place to have a Children's Party" and received an horourable mention for " Best Place to take your kids on a crummy day". In their first year of business,The Urban Treehouse Playcentres Inc.won Airdrie's coveted business award "The Winning Edge" for Business Excellence, Financial performance, Community Involvement and Customer Service and The "Family Friendly Business Award" from the National Family Week Steering Committee.
